Thunderstorm season – time for voltage drops!

Services, compensation, Products

Thunderstorms are becoming more frequent. Voltage drops caused by thunderstorms can severely disrupt production processes. Take precautions.

Voltage drops severely disrupt production processes

Right now, voltage dips are becoming more frequent again, due to the increased risk of thunderstorms. Due to the fault rectification (AWE = automatic reclosure) initiated by the grid operators, voltage dips lasting several hundred milliseconds occur. Continuous production processes fail, control systems "stop," and sensitive equipment is destroyed.

Voltage stabilizers (AVC, DVR, OSKAR) can help here.

A comparative measurement using two PQube power quality monitors demonstrates the outstanding effectiveness of the Active Voltage Conditioner in a customer installation. The first diagram shows the fluctuating voltage curve at the distribution input before the AVC. Each green flag indicates a critical voltage dip. The second diagram shows the significantly more stable voltage after the AVC. The connected devices are supplied with a constant voltage, and the typical "short interruptions" (SI) no longer occur.

In contrast to the classic UPS system, the voltage optimizers AVC

  • low operating costs
  • hardly any maintenance required
  • small space requirement
