Filter retrofit in geothermal power plant – PQE secures operation with modern filter technology

After more than 13 years of continuous operation, the broadband filter originally used in the geothermal power plant had reached its end of life. For us at PQ ENGINEERING, it was clear: modernization was necessary – without interrupting power plant operations and while retaining the existing control cabinet.

PQ ENGINEERING took over the complete execution of the retrofit, including disassembly, integration, and commissioning – all during ongoing operations. Two old filter units were replaced by modern active filter modules from the ADF P200 from Comsys. These powerful broadband filters ensure effective damping of resonances and reliably keep the harmonic voltages within the standard range.

Our service specialist Richard Loffler confirms after successful commissioning:
"All voltage levels are within the permissible range. Stable operation of the cooling units and their frequency converters is ensured."

Thanks to the compact design of the new filter solution, it could be installed in the existing cabinet in a space-saving manner – without any adjustments to the infrastructure.

 Your benefits at a glance:

  • Reliable resonance damping with minimal losses
  • Standard-compliant harmonic reduction
  • Trouble-free replacement during operation
  • Long-term safeguarding of plant operations
  • Space-saving retrofit through modular design
