Voltage stabilizer vs. UPS & emergency power
A direct comparison shows how DVR, AVC and OSKAR perform in protecting against voltage dips and grid disturbances compared to traditional backup systems such as UPS, flywheel energy storage or diesel generators.
| criterion | DVR / AVC / OSKAR (voltage stabilizers) |
UPS (uninterruptible power supply) |
Flywheel storage | Diesel generator / aggregate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Reaction time | < 3 ms | approx. 10 ms | 2–10 ms | 10–15 seconds |
| Protection against voltage drops | ✅ optimal | ⚠️ depending on battery capacity | ✅ for very short dips | ❌ reacts too slowly |
| Mains voltage regulation | ✅ active | ❌ not provided | ❌ none | ❌ none |
| Prolonged power outage | ⚠️ Seconds range | ✅ minutes | ⚠️ < 1 minute | ✅ hours |
| Maintenance effort | ✅ low | ❌ high (battery change) | ⚠️ mechanically complex | ❌ high |
| Space requirements | ✅ compact | ⚠️ medium–high | ⚠️ large | ❌ very large |
| Operating costs | ✅ very low | ❌ Battery wear | ❌ Intensive maintenance | ❌ Fuel costs |
Conclusion: Voltage stabilizers such as DVR, AVC, or OSKAR offer fast, low-maintenance protection against voltage dips and power disruptions – ideal for sensitive industrial applications. For longer power outages, combining them with a UPS or generator is recommended.
DVR – Dynamic Voltage Restorer
Dynamic voltage regulator – cost-effective and efficient
DVR is a dynamic voltage regulator specifically designed to correct voltage dips and fluctuations. During normal operation, the inverters are in standby mode. Only when the voltage exceeds or falls below the normal tolerance range does the inverter begin operating, significantly reducing energy consumption.
DVR provides fast and precise protection against undervoltages and overvoltages as well as continuous voltage regulation.
DVR is installed between the load and the power supply. In the event of a voltage drop or fluctuation, DVR transfers the load to the inverter, ensuring that sensitive loads are well protected.
The 2 ms fast response time also helps protect sensitive loads from voltage disturbances.

OSKAR – Online Voltage Regulator
Online voltage compensation for medium to high power
OSKAR® is an active, three-phase grid voltage regulator with state-of-the-art power electronics. This voltage stabilizer maintains the magnitude and phase of the grid voltage continuously and dynamically at the setpoint. Typical voltage dips are easily overcome, allowing the protected load to continue operating without problems. The system can be scaled to any power requirement by increasing the number of modules. The efficiency is approximately 98.5%.
High overload capacity, low operating and maintenance costs and the small space requirement make OSKAR a real alternative for the protection against short interruptions and voltage dips (KU, AWE).
Functions

AVC-RTS – Active Voltage Conditioner
Voltage stabilizer with bridging function
AVC-RTS is a dynamic voltage regulator specifically designed to correct voltage dips, voltage fluctuations, and short-term interruptions. The inverters are in standby mode during normal operation. Only when the voltage exceeds or falls below the normal tolerance range does the inverter begin operating, significantly reducing energy consumption.
AVC-RTS is installed between the load and the power supply. In the event of a power outage, brownout, or voltage fluctuation, AVC-RTS transfers the load to the backup energy storage system powered by the supercapacitors, ensuring that sensitive loads are well protected.
Even if the voltage drops to zero, the AVC-RTS can still support loads with 100 % nominal voltage for a duration of up to 3 seconds (ride-through function) thanks to the energy storage with super capacitors.
